Interning with NOW - New York State, Inc. is an exciting opportunity to work with the largest women's political action organization on important issues affecting women and children. A strong emphasis is placed on health care, reproductive rights, discrimination, domestic violence, women of color issues, sexual assault, civil rights, business, employment, lesbian/gay rights, divorce/child support, affirmative action, and more.
Internships are available on a full-time and part-time (at least 10 hours) basis. Unpaid credit may be arranged by the intern through the university she attends.
Responsibilities:
Work with the NOW - New York State President and staff in the

Government Relations/Public Policy Program which entails research of legislative issues, analysis of bills, preparation of written reports and attendance at committee meetings, hearings and legislative negotiation sessions as needed. |

Communications Program which involves responsibility for the research and writing of articles for the NOW - New York State newspaper, maintaining press clips, drafting press releases, and assistance with press conferences. |
 |
Direct Mail, Fundraising and Membership Program which requires work in marketing and fundraising activities and opportunity for statewide travel. |
Skills Required:
Prospective intern assistant should be hardworking, enthusiastic individuals who possess or seek a working knowledge of women's issues and government. Interns should be committed to continuing the struggle for equality and justice once they leave the Internship Program and return to their campuses and communities. Strong research and written and verbal communication skills needed. Prior legislative experience is a plus, but not required.
