This legislation defines and criminalizes aggravated rape as a Class A-II felony. When the attacker forces sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse on the victim resulting in serious physical injury or while committing assault, homicide, other sex offenses, kidnapping or related offenses, this is aggravated rape.
Rape is a serious crime and those who commit it deserve real and serious consequences. Aggravated rape involves not only the deplorable violation of a person’s sexual dignity and freedom, but also additional physical harm or possible death. Rapists should be convicted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The National Organization for Women - New York State, Inc. strongly urges the NYS Legislature to support this piece of legislation and ensure that rapists are punished accordingly for the vicious, unforgivable crimes they commit against their fellow human beings.
